I was lucky enough to have both my Mother and my Mother-in-law in town for Mother's day this year. Before they came I was thinking of what I could make. My Mother-in-law loves Scrabble and I wanted to do something that incorporated that. My husband and I took a board that I got from a thrift store for less than $5 and spent an afternoon fitting all of the family member's names onto it and this is how it turned out. After we got it just right I glued the pieces on using Elmer's Glue All. It worked better than hot glue. On the Scrabble tray it says "Forever" which is seven letter word. A total Bingo.
She liked it...I hope. For my mom I took some leftover tiles and made her a framed art piece by gluing pieces onto a pretty piece of scrapbook paper. The frame I got at Target for less than five dollars.

I think she liked hers. I want to find more boards and do more crafts with them. It is so much fun.

ReplyDeleteI do love it!!! Anyone who has seen it is impressed by my creative and brilliant children!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of putting all the family names on the board. My husband LOVES scrabble and I am redoing the game room so this could be really fun to put on the wall. I wish I could find scrabble at the thrift store. I have looked many many times. Thanks for inking up with DIY under $5!
ReplyDeleteTry an antique store for tiles, that's where I got all of mine, I spent $8 for the board and 36 tiles!
