"Happy Home": It's My Turn!

I am so very excited to share my creation from "Happy Home" with you today!

I first got my book in the mail awhile ago after Jennifer Paganelli (Designer, Author, Inspiration, and all around lovely lady) posted on Facebook that her pen was ready for whomever ordered their book next. Well, I just had to put that pen to work!
When I got my book, I was surprised to find this awesome fabric had been included! Thanks Jennifer!
She did put that pen to work. It makes me giddy when I read it.
I didn't look through it right away. I wanted to savor it all. I wanted to be alone and quiet. Kids can be very distracting. Who would have thunk? I came across the project "Express Yourself Applique Pillow" and knew it would be my first. I have a brown couch that has been brown for a long time and it needed some love.
Meet my brown couch. I love my couch! It is soooo comfy. I have had many a nap on this bad boy. I am just tired of the brown. I needed color!
This is what it needs! Some Jennifer love.

I first read through the instructions. That is so important and Jennifer's directions are easy to read and follow.

She even includes very helpful diagrams. I am a visual learner, give me pictures.
Here I am deciding how to have my fabric arranged on my pillow. (Notice my pink chair? I recovered the seats with one of Jennifer's laminates. I get tons of compliments. I love how it keeps clean!)
One of the hardest parts of the project was picking out my font. Don't pick a super curvy font if this is your first time doing the satin stitch. I found that using my ruler's edge was very helpful keeping my lines straight when I was tracing the letters.
Here I am deciding how to place my first letter. I think prints that are smaller work better for this project.
All of the letters cut out and waiting to be ironed on.
I was getting really excited at this point.
Sewing my satin stitch with a helper always on standby. This was the first time that I had used a satin stitch and Wonder Under. I don't really care for either. It is really hard to get a nice curve. I started to get better as I went on. (Don't look too close at my curvy letters. They are a bit wonky.)
My helpers feeling their own need to be creative.
Pinning my first pillow cover.
Ironing. Not always my favorite part but a necessary one. Are you getting excited?
Well....here you go.
TA DA!

What do you think?...
 I LOVE THEM!!!
If the kids weren't running around me and if I didn't have to stop and feed them (Geesh! Didn't I feed them yesterday? Just kidding!), the project wouldn't have taken all day. This could be done in an afternoon. I am in love with how much life my living room has now! It was too dark to take a picture of the couch with it's new loveliness.  I will update later when I can get a better picture of the couch.

UPDATE:
Happy couch pictures!

The backs of the pillows. I made two more covers for my other pillows after the kids went to bed. That part went super fast. My kids walked in this morning and squealed with excitement. Wahoo!

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you come again and see what I have been up to.
