Valentine's Day 2011

I was excited to decorate for Valentine's this year. I have a two and a half year old little girl who is obsessed with parties. One day the only way I could get her to take a nap was to tell her that I was getting ready for a new party. That got her right in her bed. So while she was asleep I got done as much as I could.
First I grabbed red and brown 8 1/2x11 card stock and cut one inch strips on the short side. I then took 12x12 white card stock and did the same. I ended up cutting four of the red and brown and two of the white. I then followed this tutorial on making hearts. I made four of the white, red and brown hearts to hang. I then made single hearts out of what was left.
See my pile of hearts. I cut a bunch of jute to tie the hearts together to make a garland. I made two short ones that way. Then I whole punched the hearts and threaded them through one long piece of jute to hang on my mantle.

I liked how the mantle garland turned out. The tied heart garland I hung at my front door and on my dinning room entrance. The hearts look pulled and cute. (I forgot to take a pic) I then hung my left over hearts from two embroidery hoops that I hung from my light.

I also made some decorations to hang from my living room ceiling.

I strung beads from these and they look lovely. When my daughter woke up she told me that they were perfect and beautiful. That makes me feel good as a Mommy.

Here is my mantle. I traced each family member's hands onto stiff felt, cut them out and hot glued the fingers down to make the love sign. Then I just taped them to a platter that I have. I filled my vases with pink feathers. I made my decorations on the cheap and I plan on using them next year.

I know that Valentine's is over but my husband is gone this whole week so we will be celebrating next Monday. I'll post our festivities after wards. I mean I have a little girl waiting for her party.

  1. My daughter has been going around all week making that hand at me. I think she would love a copy of her own hand.
